Esen Karol
Based in Istanbul, Esen Karol has run a one-person graphic design studio since the early 1990s. In 2010, she launched Jeff Talks, an ongoing series of lectures by a range of cultural practitioners. Named after the cheap IKEA Jeff chairs, these events originally accommodated a maximum of twelve audience members, yet were captured for broader online distribution. For each talk, Karol also commissioned an emerging Turkish graphic designer to create an offset printed poster. Now comprising 34 posters, this set functions as a snapshot of contemporary cultural production in Turkey. As Jeff Talks continue in larger venues, the project signals the multiple ways that graphic designers can catalyze conversation across disciplines.
