Eieiei
2012 / 2017
Video, 7 min 23 sec
The Language of Things is a script system made of ordinary everyday objects. This set of modern hieroglyphs allows for still lives and object arrangements to be read as text. The short video Eieiei is a drill for this language’s components:
combinations of sounds and objects
gradually begin to trigger associations and fragments of meaning. Originally
conceived in 2012 as a live performance, Eieiei was remade into a video in 2017.

Poster, silkscreen print
This set of two silkscreen posters serves as a comprehensive summary of The Language of Things, a script system made of ordinary everyday objects. One poster features the alphabet, the other one the grammar for this modern set of hieroglyphs. While an object can alternatively represent a sound (phonogram) or a complete word (logogram), the placement of an affixed teaspoon indicates the grammatical tense. The number of matches placed next to an arrangement indicates whether the person is one, two, or many.
