Majallet Majid, a comic book anthology and weekly children’s magazine, made its first appearance on magazine stands in the UAE on Wednesday, February 28, 1979. With the tagline “a magazine for all boys and all girls,” Majallet Majid became the vanguard of progressive pan-Arab ideals for children across the Arab world in the 80s and 90s. Published by Abu Dhabi Media, the magazine was named after a popular sailor from Ras Al Khaimah, Shihab Al-Deen Ahmad bin Majid, rooting it in local culture while simultaneously showcasing the comic work of pioneering Egyptian illustrators such as Muhyiddin al-Labbad and Ahmad Hejazi.
