Department of Mapping Margins
Sharjah (in)Visible City workshop will create a collective map of the city using drawing technique in order to capture intangible aspects of the built environment of Sharjah (odors, textures, sounds, unperceived details and hidden elements from our daily life…). The workshop aims to explore the subjective part of the city, creating a graphic and written narrative which will be achieved through drawings in order to create a map that portrays the unexpected, the unforeseen and the surprise of Sharjah heritage area. Participants will be creating a route in the city, drifting and surveying the city. The final map aims to erase any pre-conceived idea of a city map, creating our own layered and subjective graphic cartography, made out of new sensorial references. An enriched digital file with images, textures, sketches, sounds and video. A psycho-geography that reclaims the city as a personal and sensorial experience. A graphic document revealing the invisible. A way of re-appropriating the city.
